Hardcover Book, The Complete Sherlock Holmes Volume ll, Sir Arthur Conan Doyle, Fiction, Literature, Mystery, Detection, Suspense, Novel

A hardcover 1953 edition of The Complete Sherlock Holmes, Volume ll by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle. This is the second of two volumes. Since his first appearance in Beeton’s Christmas Annual in 1887, Sir Arthur Conan Doyle’s Sherlock Holmes has been one of the most beloved fictional characters ever created.

This volume has the at the beginning of the book, The Hound of the Baskervilles, a haunting novel of murder on eerie Grimpen Moor, which has rightly earned its reputation as the finest murder mystery ever written. The Valley of Fear matches Holmes against his archenemy, the master of imaginative crime, Professor Moriarty. In addition, the loyal Dr. Watson has faithfully recorded Holmes’s feats of extraordinary detection in such famous cases as the thrilling The Adventure of the Red Circle and the twelve baffling adventures from The Case Book of Sherlock Holmes. Conan Doyle’s tales bring to life a Victorian England of horse-drawn cabs, fogs, and the famous lodgings at 221B Baker Street, where for more than forty years Sherlock Holmes earned his undisputed reputation as one of the greatest fictional detectives of all time.

Contents of Volume II – 2 Novels and 33 short stories:
The Hound of the Baskervilles (Sir Arthur’s most popular Full-length Novel)
The Return of Sherlock Holmes (13 superlative short stories)
His Last Bow (8 Sherlock Holmes short stories taken from magazines of the period)
The Valley of Fear (Fourth & Final Full-length Sherlock Holmes Novel)
The Casebook of Sherlock Holmes (12 Short stories taken from Strand Magazine – 1920’s)

Sir Arthur Ignatius Conan Doyle (1859 – 1930) was a British writer and physician. He created the character Sherlock Holmes in 1887 for A Study in Scarlet, the first of four novels and fifty-six short stories about Holmes and Dr. Watson. The Sherlock Holmes stories are milestones in the field of crime fiction. Doyle was a prolific writer; other than Holmes stories, his works include fantasy and science fiction stories about Professor Challenger and humorous stories about the Napoleonic soldier Brigadier Gerard, as well as plays, romances, poetry, non-fiction, and historical novels. One of Doyle's early short stories, "J. Habakuk Jephson's Statement" (1884), helped to popularize the mystery of the Mary Celeste.
