A wonderful hardcover cookbook called The Horizon Cookbook and Illustrated History of Eating and Drinking through the Ages by William Harlan Hale and The Editors of Horizon Magazine. It has 570 illustrations, 110 in color.
There are pictures on every page of the historical narrative, and ten picture portfolios. This book is now out of print.

Seldom has the subject of eating and drinking—from the Bronze Age to the recent past—been treated to a full- length history. It deserves better. Part I of The HORIZON COOKBOOK AND ILLUSTRATED HISTORY OF EATING AND DRINKING THROUGH THE AGES is a history of civilized man’s long culinary heritage. Part II has more than 600 recipes, the largest collection of historical recipes ever assembled in a single volume. This book is in Very Good condition. The binding is tight. The book has no markings in the inside only a previous owner's name on a bookplate on the front flyleaf. The pages are all clean and bright. The covers show little shelf ware. The dust cover is also in very good condition with no rips or tears. It does have rubbing along the edges from age.

This would make a great gift idea for the person who loves to cook or is just learning to cook.

As New: The book is in the same immaculate condition as when it was published. This could be the description for a book that has been lost in a warehouse for years, never shelved, thumbed or even opened yet may still be some years old.

Fine: A Fine book approaches the condition of As New, but without being crisp. The book may have been opened and read, but there are no defects in the book, jacket or pages.

Very Good: Describes a book that shows some small signs of wear - but no tears - on either binding or paper. Any defects should be noted by the seller.

Good: Describes the average used book that has all pages or leaves present. Any defects should be noted by the seller.

Fair: A Worn book that has complete text pages (including those with maps or plates) but may lack endpapers, half-title, etc. Binding, jacket (if any), etc., may also be worn. All defects should be noted.

Poor: Describes a book that is sufficiently worn. Any missing maps or plates should still be noted. This copy may be soiled, scuffed, stained or spotted and may have loose joints, hinges, pages, etc.

Binding Copy: describes a book in which the pages or leaves are perfect but the binding is very bad, loose, off, or nonexistent.
