A wonderful children's hardcover book called What's Under My Bed by James Stevenson. It is a 1983 first edition. Illustrated by the author.

This book tells the story of two children who are told a scary bedtime story by their grandfather. When the children are scared, they come back to the grandfather, and he tells the children a story about his own childhood when he was scared at bedtime. The children supply the comforting explanations which makes them feel much better.

James Stevenson (1929 – 2017) was an American illustrator and author of over 100 children's books. His cartoons appeared regularly in The New Yorker magazine. He usually used a unique comic book style of illustration that is very recognizable. His books, like What's Under My Bed, have been featured on the Reading Rainbow television series.

This book is in Very Good condition. Binding is tight and the pages are clean with no markings. There is rubbing to the back cover and a small amount of wear on the top of the binding. Corners show very little wear.

As New: The book is in the same immaculate condition as when it was published. This could be the description for a book that has been lost in a warehouse for years, never shelved, thumbed or even opened yet may still be some years old.

Fine: A Fine book approaches the condition of As New, but without being crisp. The book may have been opened and read, but there are no defects to the book, jacket or pages.

Very Good: Describes a book that shows some small signs of wear - but no tears - on either binding or paper. Any defects should be noted by the seller.

Good: Describes the average used book that has all pages or leaves present. Any defects should be noted by the seller.

Fair: Worn book that has complete text pages (including those with maps or plates) but may lack endpapers, half-title, etc. Binding, jacket (if any), etc., may also be worn. All defects should be noted.

Poor: Describes a book that is sufficiently worn. Any missing maps or plates should still be noted. This copy may be soiled, scuffed, stained or spotted and may have loose joints, hinges, pages, etc.

Binding Copy: describes a book in which the pages or leaves are perfect but the binding is very bad, loose, off, or nonexistent.
