Foo dogs are mythical lion-like creatures that originated in China during the Han Dynasty (206 BCE-211 CE). These figurines are also referred to as Shishi or Chinese Imperial Guardian Lions or a Lion Dog. They are made in Japan and are known for their distinctive light turquoise color. Foo dogs are symbolic of protection, success, wealth, and good fortune. They are also thought to ward off evil spirits and intruders. Foo dogs were originally placed at the entrances of Buddhist temples, palaces, important residences, and mausoleums.
