Hardcover Antiquarian Book: The Outline of History by H.G. Wells - 1921 Third Edition, Historical Reference

A wonderful hardcover history book, The Outline of History by H. G. Wells. This is a 1921 Third Edition. The third edition of The Outline of History by H. G. Wells was published by The Macmillan Company for the Review of Reviews Company in New York. The book is a revised hardcover edition that chronicles the history of the world from the beginning of the Earth to the start of World War I. Wells wrote the book in response to his dissatisfaction with the quality of history textbooks. The book was very popular and sold more than two million copies, and was translated into many languages. It also had a significant impact on how history is taught in higher education. Wells's goal was to show that history as a whole can be handled more broadly than the history of specific nations and periods, while still being accessible to the average reader. He believed that history is primarily a history of ideas, and that his outline would focus on ages, races, and nations, rather than reigns, pedigrees, and campaigns.

Herbert George Wells (1866 – 1946) was an English writer. Prolific in many genres, he wrote more than fifty novels and dozens of short stories. His non-fiction output included works of social commentary, politics, history, popular science, satire, biography, and autobiography. Wells' science fiction novels are so well regarded that he has been called the "father of science fiction"

This book is in good condition. There is wear on the edges and covers as well as rubbing and staining. The binding is tight. This has a book plate on the inside front cover, also stamping on the title page. The pages are yellowed, but this is to be expected considering the age of this book, it is 103 years old. There is some underlining and notes in the margins done in pencil.
