A beautiful limited edition 1981 collector plate from The Franklin Mint. It is from The Great Clipper Ships Collection. This plate is the Great Republic. This would be a lovely addition to your home decor or as a gift. Great for hanging on a wall or added to a china cabinet.
The Great Republic was designed by naval architect and shipbuilder Donald McKay as a four-deck four-masted medium clipper. This was intended to be the most profitable wooden sailing ship ever to ply the Australian gold rush and southern oceans merchant trade. The ship's name was drawn from the title of a poem by Henry Wadsworth Longfellow. Its figurehead was a gilded eagle.
