A beautiful limited edition 1981 collector plate from The Franklin Mint. It is from The Great Clipper Ships Collection. This plate is the Thermopylae. This would be a lovely addition to your home decor or as a gift. Great for hanging on a wall or added to a china cabinet.
Thermopylae was built for the Aberdeen Line, which was founded in 1825 by George Thompson. It was built by Walter Hood and designed by Bernard Weymouth. In 1872, Thermopylae raced the clipper Cutty Sark from Shanghai back to London. Thermopylae won by seven days after Cutty Sark lost her rudder. From 1882 onward, Thermopylae took part in the Australian wool trade.
