A wonderful hardcover book titled Airport by Arthur Hailey. This book is a book club edition and the books original copyright was 1968. The book has green cover boards with the title in silver on the spine and author's name in silver on the front board.

The story takes place at Lincoln International, a fictional Chicago airport based very loosely on O'Hare International Airport. The story takes place mainly over the course of one evening and night, as a massive snowstorm plays havoc with airport operations. The storyline centers on Mel Bakersfeld, the Airport General Manager, as he struggles to keep the airport open during the storm. His chief problem is the unexpected closure of primary Runway 30 caused when a departing airliner for a Mexican airline turns off past the wrong side of a runway marker light, burying the plane's landing gear in the snow, and blocking the runway. This becomes a major problem as another airplane, Trans America Flight Two, experiences a midair emergency, aborts the flight to Rome and returns to Lincoln. This plane which has suffered major structural and mechanical damage due to explosive decompression caused by the detonation of the bomb brought on board requires runway 30 to be made operational---at any cost.

Arthur Hailey (1920 – 2004) was a British-Canadian novelist whose plot-driven storylines were set against the backdrops of various industries. His meticulously-researched books, which include such bestsellers as Hotel (1965), Airport (1968), Wheels (1971), The Moneychangers (1975), and Overload (1979), have sold 170 million copies in 38 languages.
