A wonderful pair of Kokeshi Peg Dolls, These Japanese dolls are made of two round wooden balls with a peg between the two. The girl doll is dressed in red and has a pin in her hair. The boy doll is dressed in green. This pair would be a great addition to a collection or perfect for starting your own. A wonderful addition to a curio cabinet.
Kokeshi are Japanese dolls, originally from the northeastern region of Japan. They are handmade from wood, have a simple trunk and head with a few thin, painted lines to define the face. The body often has floral and/or ring designs painted in red, black, and sometimes green, purple, blue or yellow inks, and covered with a layer of wax. One characteristic of kokeshi dolls is their lack of arms or legs.
Size:
Both dolls are 4 1/2 inches in height
These dolls are from the late 1950s and are dated on the bottoms. They also have a name on the bottom but we are not sure if this is the maker or the receivers of these wonderful dolls. The heads do bobble.
Girl Doll is in excellent condition. Being from the 1950s she does show some signs of age but they are small. The wood has darkened beautifully with age.
Boy Doll is in very good condition. Also being from the 1950s he does show signs of age. He has a very small nick on his forehead. The paint on his back has lots of rubbing. His head is loose but still sits upright and is well attached.
Our price reflects any imperfections.
These would be a great gift for the collector. A wonderful addition to a collection.
