"A" is for Alibi, Sue Grafton, First Edition, Hardcover Book, Novel, Thriller, Suspense, Mystery, Fiction, Detective Story
A wonderful hardcover book titled "A" for Alibi by Sue Grafton. The book cover boards are black with title and author's name in gold on the spine. This is dated 1982 making it a First Edition.
The novel is set in the fictional southern California city of Santa Teresa, based on Santa Barbara. The choice of murder by substituting the contents of an antihistamine tablet with crushed oleander meant that an alibi held no value because the contents of the tablet could have been switched a considerable time earlier than the victim actually swallowed the tablet. Grafton says that she conceived aspects of the plot on her own "fantasies" of murdering her then-husband while going through a divorce.
Kinsey is in grand company as she re-investigates an old case: eight years ago womanizing divorce lawyer Laurence Fife was poisoned, second wife Nikki was convicted, but now Nikki is out of jail and wants Kinsey to find the real murderer.
Sue Taylor Grafton (1940 – 2017) was an American author of detective novels. She is best known as the author of the "alphabet series" ("A" Is for Alibi, etc.) featuring private investigator Kinsey Millhone in the fictional city of Santa Teresa, California. The daughter of detective novelist C. W. Grafton, she said the strongest influence on her crime novels was author Ross Macdonald. Before her success with this series, she wrote screenplays for television movies.
