A fun retro coffee mug by Anchor Hocking in their Fire King line. The mug is Jade Ite (Dinnerware) and is a beautiful green milk glass. This mug carries you back to the 1940s while you enjoy your coffee, tea, or hot chocolate. Jade Ite is highly collectible.
Fire King Jade Ite, also known as jadeite, is a type of glass tableware made of Jade-green opaque milk glass, popular in the United States in the mid-20th century. While jade-ite is a collector’s favorite today, it was meant to be regular, utilitarian dishware for the everyday kitchen. The green color was added to existing glass formulas in order to to add a bit of color to people’s lives during the Depression. Seeing that cheery burst of color, glass makers hoped, would brighten people’s days a little. What made jadeite popular during the mid-century as well as now is its durability. It was made to withstand high temperatures and built to last.
